About

Baseball & Softball BATtles Cancer's mission is to raise cancer awareness and research funding through the power of baseball and softball high school teams.

Our Story

In 2013, PJ and Elizabeth Arway started “Baseball BATtles Cancer" (originally known as The Mighty 10th Battles Cancer). PJ Arway has been a participant in American Legion baseball for nearly 20 years as a player, coach and general manager. PJ and Elizabeth have both watched close family members lose their battles to cancer, and wanted to find a way to continue the fight against the horrible disease. PJ’s passion for baseball, combined with Elizabeth’s marketing and design skills, brought “The Mighty 10th Battles Cancer” event to life. In addition to raising money for cancer research, the event teaches young players that they can use the gift of baseball to raise awareness and funding to fight the disease. At the same time, the event enlightens all players, parents and fans about warning signs and treatments for a variety of cancers.

The Jason Motte Foundation

The seed for the Jason Motte Foundation was planted in the fall of 2010 when Jason and Caitlin Motte asked, “what can we do to help?” At the time, Caitlin’s grandfather, Lynn Doyle, was a cancer patient at The West Clinic in Memphis, Tennessee. Jason and Caitlin saw a sign that mentioned a need for blankets and wondered what more they could do to help. That question led to the formation of the Strike Out Cancer with Jason Motte Foundation and several projects including the annual St. Louis Cornhole Tournament. The Motte family uses the monies raised towards research all while providing comfort and care where there is a need for those affected, either directly or indirectly, by cancers of all kinds.
